Olivier Sedra
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Olivier Sedra is a public address announcer for the Cleveland Cavaliers of the National Basketball Association.
Sedra, who replaced Ronnie Duncan after the 2005-06 NBA season, made his debut as the Quicken Loans Arena voice for Cavs games on October 31, 2006.
Similar to two Cavs public address announcers immediately before him, Duncan and Jeff Shreve, Sedra has also been widely criticized by Cavs fans (insomuch that his announcing has been unintentionally funny at times). [1]
On Sunday February 4, 2007 during a nationally televised home game between Cleveland and Detroit, Sedra irked Pistons' players after he yelled into his mic, "D-E-E-E-TROIT TURNOVER", imitating Pistons announcer John Mason's famous coin phrase "D-E-E-E-TROIT BASKETBALL". It was rather silly due to the fact that it wasn't a turnover, and also the fact that the Cavaliers were being dominated in 4 quarters of basketball and 10 points down and the game winding down to the last minute. Shortly after he blurted his imitation, Pistons trainer Mike Abdenour, along with Piston players Chauncey Billups and Rasheed Wallace had an altercation with Sedra regarding this incident. The Piston players told him to get his own material in which Olivier Sedra only replied, "I'm just doing my job." Detroit would go on to win the game 90-78 dominating all 4 quarters of play.
