Old Forge, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania

Old Forge is a borough in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is known by a select few people in Pennsylvania as: "The Pizza Capital of the World." The population was 8,798 at the 2000 census.

Its pizza legendary throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania, but controversial in other parts of the country because it includes American cheese and is served in "trays" rather than pies. Old Forge Pennsylvania is also home to one of the most spending Boroughs in the State. Old Forge currently has a $100,000 police motorcycle that is used by the chief of police, Larry Semenza, who does not have a motorcycle license.

Controversy also started when basketball star Stephen Semenza was caught driving under the influnce for the 2nd time days before the Basketball Finals. No action has been filed. Action most likely was convered up my Semenza's cousin the chief of police Larry Semenza.

Old Forge is a very small borough that contains 6 police vehicles and 20 officers. Officers can be seen making routine traffic stops with 3 sometimes even 4 police cars present.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 8.9 km² (3.5 mi²), all land.

As of the census of 2000, there were 8,798 people, 746 households, and 2,457 families residing in the borough. The population density was 984.6/km² (2,546.9/mi²). There were 3,981 housing units at an average density of 445.5/km² (1,152.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough was 99.01% White, 0.16% African American, 0.03% Native American, 0.39% Asian, 0.13% from other races, and 0.28% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.34% of the population.

There were 3,746 households out of which 25.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.7% were married couples living together, 12.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.4% were non-families. 31.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.32 and the average family size was 2.91.

In the borough the population was spread out with 19.8% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 26.5% from 25 to 44, 24.0% from 45 to 64, and 23.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 85.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.0 males.

The median income for a household in the borough was $35,090, and the median income for a family was $46,152. Males had a median income of $34,159 versus $22,887 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $19,228. 6.6% of the population and 4.7% of families were below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 5.0% are under the age of 18 and 12.0% are 65 or older.
