Public domain This work is in the public domain because it is an Ordnance Survey map over 50 years old. Ordnance Survey maps are covered by crown copyright which in this case expires 50 years after publication. Ordnance Survey does however ask that they be credited and that the date of publication be given.

Any ancillary rights gained through the creation of the electronic version are granted as freely usable under any circumstances.

[edit] Rationale

This map is of Shaw and Crompton in 1851 and was produced by Ordnance Survey. Given it is now within the public domain (as it is much older than 50 years old), and deals with the town of the same name, it is wholly suitable for inclusion on the Shaw and Crompton article as it provides excellent context for its development and history.

This map was scanned and produced from an old copy and is from[http://www.sunsetonthedawn.co.uk] website. Thanks to Martin Andrew at Bae Systems Chaderton for the use of their A0 scanner.
