Olaf Janssen

After a short career in astronomy Olaf D. Janssen (1973) has been working for the Dutch Royal Library since 2001. He started as the editor in chief for Gabriel, the web service of the European national libraries and the precursor of TheEuropeanLibrary.org.
In 2004 he was asked to join The European Library. He was involved in the technical & editorial development of the service.
- Currently he is a project manager for the EU-funded EDLproject:
This project will integrate 58 collections of the national libraries of Belgium, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Norway, Spain and Sweden into The European Library.
It also
- improves the multilingual aspects of The European Library,
- works towards collaboration between European national libraries, museums & archives, and
- expands the marketing and communication activities of The European Library.
- Before this he was a project manager for the TEL-ME-MOR project, which integrated the national libraries of the 10 New Member States of the EU into The European Library. TEL-ME-MOR ended successfully in January 2007.
He has given presentations & lectures across Europe, in the USA and in Asia.
Classical men's shoes, road racing (cycling), cooking and mountaineering are his life-long passions.
