Oki (musician)

OKI is an Ainu Japanese musician. His real name is Kanō Oki (加納沖) and he is from the Kanagawa Prefecture. He studied industrial arts at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. His father, Bikki Sunazawa, was a renowned wood sculptor. Oki uses the tonkori in his performances and mixes the traditional Ainu music with reggae, dub and other styles of African American music.
Not only performing in Japan, he has taken part in several folk music festivals in other countries and in 2006, he released the album Kíla & Oki with the Irish band, Kíla.
