Talk:Oi Polloi
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"In despite of all these hardcore left wing pretensions, Degs attended Stewarts Melville College in Edinburgh, one of the most privileged and upper class fee-paying schools. Oi Polloi started out as an Oi skin band with right-wing connections. Original drummer Gavin "Guv'nor" Robertson was a BNP activist, Edinburgh East Side Skin (E.E.S.S.), Rangers Casual, and one of the first people in Scotland to be charged under the new Incitement to Racial Hatred legislations."
This amounts to libel and is unverified, I say it should go. The singer may have attended a posh school and one of the former members may have gone on to switch sides, but I am old enough to have followed most of Oi Polloi's career (that's old!) and they were never in my memory right-wing and certainly aren't now and all this is irrelevant to explaining who the band are and why they are important, which should be the point of the pedia. Character assassination is not.
Tim Righteous, (Who with his butt plug and a pint of milk can recreate a small family of chinese half-castes, sitting down to sunday dinner, with extra gravy).
[edit] Texts
Does anyone know where you can get the texts of the Oi Polloi songs? I don't have enough Gaelic to make out what they say, but I reckon if I could see it written down I could work it all out. For example, the text of "Carson?", which will be just a sentence or two. If these are online, a link in the article would be great. If not, I don't suppose anyone could post them here for me? --Doric Loon 14:24, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
a charaid, the words for 'Carson?' are on the 7" single and the words for 'Ar Cànan...' are on the LP with translations availabe from their myspace site. I don't know if any of the Gaelic lyrics are available on-line. Gu math a theid leat, seonaidh
In response to the allegations of right wing begginings and upper class education Deek of the band has told me that the forementioned drummer was in fact asked to leave when his political beliefs became apparent, he was also for the record not the bands first drummer. As for the schooling, most of the band members who attended the school had either scholarships, parents at the school or had half state half parent paid fees. Just wanted to clear up this clear vendetta against the band. Thanks, J. Benton
