OHRRPGCE
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The OHRRPGCE (Official Hamster Republic Role Playing Game Creation Engine) is an open-source game development engine written by James Paige in QuickBASIC. It was designed to allow the quick creation of 2D computer RPGs. It was released in 1997, and a community of hobbyist game developers have created thousands of amateur games since that time. In May of 2005, the source code was released under the GPL, and it was later ported from QuickBASIC to FreeBASIC. The majority of the community is located at Castle Paradox.
The OHRRPGCE uses a scripting language called HamsterSpeak, but games can be made without any use of scripting. Although simple to use, it's very technically limited, so it is best used for quick prototyping or as a way to learn about game development.
