As of 2005, the highway's northern terminus is near Mentor, Ohio at the entrance gate to Mentor Headlands Beach State Park. Its southern terminus is in Waynesburg, Ohio, where it intersects with State Route 43.
[edit] Route 44C
Route 44C, a former alignment of SR 44, is a 0.19-mile[1] connection with South Prospect Street and SR 44/SR 5 south of Ravenna. From Ravenna Warren Road (SR 59) east of Ravenna, SR 44 and SR 5 run southwest and intersect SR 14. The two routes then continue to run southwest and intersect South Prospect Street, which is running south. Route 44C exists on South Prospect Street to connect SR 44 and SR 5 with South Prospect Street. SR 5 then ends at the junction with I-76. SR 44 continues to run south until it intersects SR 43 near Waynesburg, its ending terminus.
