The Oceania Champions League 2007 is to kick off in January 2007 with six clubs from five countries: New Zealand, New Caledonia, Tahiti, Fiji and the Solomon Islands. The six clubs will be split into two groups of three for home and away matches.

Auckland City qualified as the reigning champions of the OFC Champions’ Cup. The other 5 teams gained their qualifications due to their domestic league performances. Following the withdrawal of Vanuatu’s Port Vila Sharks, The OFC awarded a second berth to Waitakere United, the leader after the first round of the current New Zealand Football Championship.

This competition is the new format for the Oceania Champions’ Cup. In 2008, it should be expanded to 8 clubs.[citation needed]

The two group winners will then meet in a home and away grand-final scheduled for April 21 and 28, 2007. The winner claiming Oceania’s US$1 million (NZ$1.41 million) berth in the 2007 FIFA Club World Cup in Japan the following December.
