[edit] History

Of Military and Mathematics is a Long Island, New York based Christian post-hardcore band. The band started as the brain child of Joshua Freedman (who had previously entitled his solo project Of Military and Mathematics, now entitled To Make a Long Story Short) and Caleb Diolosa, while Josh was attending Christian City Church School of Creative Arts in Sydney, Australia. The two had corresponded over the internet and had a mutual interest in starting a band devoted to glorifying the word of God.

On December 28th,2005, Josh and Caleb along with Guitarist Harley Berk and Bassist John Lubrano assembled in Josh's living room in East Northport, NY and had what was their first practice. What came out is a beautifully inspired style all its own. Little did they know the serious undertaking that would transpire in the following months.

After months of gruesome practicing, promotion and writing, OMAM finally stepped into the studio for the first time to begin recording their freshmen release, "Wake (From This Dream)" under the production of Josh Silverberg ( Edison Glass). Following the recording and release of "Wake" the band spent the summer of 2006 gruelingly touring the United States, from as far south as Texas, to as far west as Nebraska with bands such as Alove for Enemies (Facedown Records), Edison Glass (EMI), Showbread (Solid State Records), Life In Your Way (Solid State Records), Kiss the Gunner (Harvest Earth Records), The Chinese Express (Measure for Measure Records), and Amen. The Animal (Tenfold Records).

Named one of the top 10 unsigned bands by Indie Vision Music (www.indievisionmusic.com), their consistent and diligent touring had created a name for themselves in the unsigned music market. As the summer drew to a close and school had begun again, the quartet's touring had become increasingly infrequent and they began to conceptualize their sophomore release.

In October 2006, OMAM added an additional guitarist, Barish Madanoglu, who proceeded to transfer from SUNY Potsdam in Northern New York back to his hometown on Long Island to pursue the band. Now a quintet, OMAM flourished from the extensive creative and musical knowledge that Barish had brought to the band.

The coming months would prove hard for the band, as tensions between the band had increased. Eventually, the bassist John Lubrano had decided to leave the band due to musical and professional differences. The band had disassembled at that point, hoping to not cross each others paths again. It wasn't long before the group had realized the potential that they had almost given up on. Long time friend, supporter, photographer, and mentor Graham Capobianco had been asked to join the band on Guitar and vocals after Harley had moved from guitar to Bass. Graham had been pushing his 4 year solo project, The Casuist towards its first full length, but had decided to postpone the recording and release to pursue helping the band conceptualize its sophomore release. The result of this addition would prove to be incredible, as the band begins recording "The Sun, The Vine, The Worm" in April 2007.
