[edit] Relevance to Elizabeth Bolden and Jeanne Calment

Please note that I think Oberia's relevance is more to Elizabeth Bolden. Why? Bolden was considered to be the oldest person currently living, and anyone older than her is an asterisk over her title, validated or not. Since the case is not close to being validated, comparing to Jeanne Calment is a bit of a stretch. The idea is not that Oberia's claim is true, but that a rival to the crown-holder has been removed. Sort of like reporting the death of a rebel leader or a pretender to the throne. Whether 122 or not, there is seriously no evidence other than late-life social security records that have thus far been located, and given the sorry state of recordkeeping for African-Americans in the rural US South some 80-120 years ago, chances of finding proof of Oberia's age are extremely remote. Thus, she should best be remembered as a rival claimant. Note this is like saying that John Kerry was a claimant to the U.S. Presidency. The newspaper article states that Oberia Coffin was the eldest child of 13 to 14 siblings. Does anyone have documentation supporting that she was the second child of 14 siblings as previously stated?
I unlinked some of the dates as they weren't really relevant to the topic. Roaming27 07:02, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
