[edit] Dispute
First of all, "oberek" doesn't mean "to hop and turn". I cannot give the precise etymological explanantion, but "oberek" comes from the word "obracać" ('to turn') and traditional way of dancing in Central Poland is very flat, on heels, without any "hopping".
The point is however, I believe, to observe differences between actual way of dancing in the (past) folk culture of Poland and stylised methods used by folk dance ensembles, which can be very different.
