Obergriesbach

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Obergriesbach is a town of approximately 1,800 inhabitants, situated in Southern Bavaria, Germany. It is part of the Aichach-Friedberg Landkreis and located some 22km from Augsburg, the third biggest city in Bavaria.

Obergriesbach is a charming village, surrounded by rolling meadows and lush, green forest. There are many farms on the village outskirts, and tractors making their way through the streets every day of the year.

Due to its incredibly small size, Obergriesbach is not found on any 'things to see' lists, but if you find yourself here anyway, the only places really available to check out are the Biergarten, one of the most famous in the region, the local church, and the Pizzeria on the hill. From here, the views out to and past Dasing are wonderful. And, if you happen to be there during Föhn, then a view of the Alps from here is highly likely.

From 1,059 residents in 1970, 1,545 in 1987 to 1,807 in 2000, Obergriesbach is a growing community. In recent years a new section has been added to the village. From the train station, the village now expands almost out to nearby Sulzbach.

The mayor of Obergriesbach is Josef Schwegler.

In 1999 the Kindergarten had 50 places, and 55 children enrolled to attend. Many places are still saught by local parents, who are resorting to Kindys in other villages as they wait for a place for their child in the local Kindergarten.
