Oakmeeds Community College is a Secondary School located in central Burgess Hill, West Sussex, England. There are currently around 1100 students at Oakmeeds, between age 11 and 16. It is recognised as a Business and Enterprise College and also has Eco Schools status and the Sportsmark. Oakmeeds takes its name from the oak trees in the school grounds, running along the path of a roman road, and Meeds Pottery, which stood there before Oakmeeds was built. It mainly serves Burgess Hill; but also has students from the nearby villages of Hassocks, Keymer and Hurstpierpoint, as well as the City of Brighton and Hove area. The current headteacher is Colin Taylor B.Ed M.A.

[edit] House System
Oakmeeds can be divided into four houses:

The name refers to Ashdown Forest, and the house colour is green. The tutors in Ashdown typically work in the ICT, Science and Technology departments. The head of house is Mrs Tanner, and the house mascot is the "Ashdown Alien".

The name Beacon is derived from nearby Ditchling Beacon. The house colour is yellow, and the tutors in this house are from English and Humanities. The mascot for Beacon is the "Beacon Bear", and head of house is Mrs Parnell.
[edit] Caburn
Caburn is so named because of Mount Caburn, which overlooks Lewes, and the house colour is red. Caburn's tutors teach Maths and Modern Foreign Languages. The head of house is Mr Macve, and the mascot is the "Caburn Dragon".
[edit] Firle
Affectionately known as "Foxy Firle" after its mascot, and named after Firle Place, Firle is associated with the colour blue, and its tutors teach the arts and PE, as well as RE, and other subjects. Mrs Frean is head of Firle house, although currently is not at the school.
