The Oakland Public Library system is the network of libraries in Oakland, California. The Oakland Public Library is the largest public library in the East Bay and the largest public library in California after that of San Francisco. It consists of a main library located in Downtown Oakland and several branch libraries throughout the city, including Asian, Brookfield, Cesar E. Chavez, Dimond, Eastmont, Elmhurst, Golden Gate, Lakeview, Martin Luther King Jr., Melrose, Montclair, Piedmont Avenue, Rockridge, Temescal, and West Oakland.

Special libraries within the Oakland Public Library system that are not considered branch libraries are the African American Museum and Library at Oakland (AAMLO), the Second Start Adult Literacy Library, and the Tool Lending Library.

[edit] Main Library

The main library is located in Downtown Oakland, at 125 14th Street. It is the only library in the system open seven days a week, as the branches are closed on Sundays. It contains twenty-five internet computers and four express computers which patrons may use for an hour or fifteen minutes, respectively, with a valid library card, as well as a word processing computer. There are microfilm stations on the second floor, as well as magazines and newspapers. The Oakland History Room, which archives information about Oakland and California, is also located on the second floor.
