Oakland Hills

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Oakland Hills is the common name of the range of hills which extend along the east side of the city of Oakland, California. The term Oakland Hills is "officially" incorrect according to many geographers and gazetteers, who argue that it is all part of the Berkeley Hills range.

To add some confusion, the common usage often also includes an officially unnamed ridge west of the Berkeley/Oakland Hills, as well as the valley (which is bisected by Highway 13) enclosed between these two ridges. This other ridge, a shutter ridge created by the Hayward Fault, extends southeast from Oakland’s Rockridge district in the north to the junction of Highway 13 and I-580 in East Oakland and includes most of the small city of Piedmont, California.

The Oakland Hills became, unfortunately, internationally famous thanks to the 1991 Oakland Hills Fire.
