Oakajee, Western Australia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Oakajee is a small town about 25km north of the Western Australian city of Geraldton.
[edit] New Port
In 2006, it was proposed to establish a new port and railway to serve the mining industry, especially iron ore.
[edit] Railway
The proposed railway would be a common carrier open to all for a fee.
[edit] Gauge
Even though the nearby railways at Geraldton are 3' 6" narrow gauge, the new railway would be 4' 8½" standard gauge. This choice of gauge is to allow use of off-the-shelf equipment, especially for heavy duty equipment, and because the country-side is almost desert, there is little expectation of significant through traffic.
