NZRun
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
NZRun is a New Zealand website, run by the runners Rees Buck (2003-05 New Zealand 3000m champion) and Carl Jackson, devoted to track & field and cross country and their related communities in New Zealand. The site is similar to the American site Letsrun,in that it is primarily known for its message board. However, unlike ‘Letsrun’, the site does not focus on a particular sub-code of athletics such as distance running but does focus on providing links to articles of importance elsewhere. It is known to have strong membership amongst the sub-elite male population of middle and long distance athletes.
This site serves as a resource to the New Zealand running community. However, much like ‘Letsrun’, the “message boards are inhabited by many trolls that seek to disrupt intelligent discourse.” NZRun has also been the source of much controversy following citation of one of its discussions in the New Zealand Herald after a miss-start in New Zealand’s 2005 national marathon championships, the Auckland Marathon. NZRun has also been shown to cause unrest at the New Zealand’s athletics governing body- Athletics New Zealand- following citation of NZRun in its published monthly-meeting minutes. Athletics New Zealand plans to develop a competing system of forums to compete with NZRun.
In addition, NZRun is currently the only resource which monitors American-based New Zealand runners- publishing regular updates of significant results. Top athletes such a Michigan-based miler and recent Commonwealth Games 1500m champion, Nick Willis, are known to contribute to the message boards. Other top New Zealand athletes figures such as Olympic representatives Robbie Johnston and Craig Kirkwood have also been known to contribute. The messageboard has also recently suffered a surge of interest thanks to a poster named Haggit, who claims to the chosen one with predictions on world events.
