The NZR EA class (later EO of 1968) was a class operated by New Zealand Railways between 1968 and the 1990s. They were based the Otira-Arthurs Pass section of the Midland line of the South Island. They replaced the EO class of 1923 on these duties. The class were later reclassified EO. When the decision to scrap the electrification of the section was made in the 1990s in favor of dieselisation, with modified DX class locomotives and upgrading of the Otira Tunnel, these locomotives were stored. Three were preserved by the Ferrymead Railway, the other two are still in storage at Toll Rail's yards.
