Nyctanthes arbortristis |
Nyctanthes is a genus of plants of the family Oleaceae, native to South East Asia. It contains two species, as most of the species previously included in this genus have been transferred to other genera, most of them to Jasminum. The most well-known species is the Night-flowering Jasmine (N. arbortristis, also known as Sad Tree), which is also the type species of the genus. The species N. dentata Blume is not accepted, and currently seen as a synonym for the N. arbortristis.
The name Nyctanthes means "night flowering".
