Nutley High School

Nutley High School is the only four-year comprehensive public high school in the Township of Nutley, New Jersey, United States, as part of the Nutley Public Schools. Its colors are maroon and gray. The school is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
There are 1,400 students enrolled in grades 9-12. All students pursue an appropriate academic program in preparation for a wide variety of post-secondary educational placements or for employment. Nutley High School encourages students to become critical thinkers, lifelong learners, and responsible citizens in a technological, multicultural society.
The Nutley High School Raiders are one of twenty schools participating in the Northern New Jersey Interscholastic League.

[edit] Curriculum
The curriculum includes a full academic program and electives in fine and practical arts, business, music, and technology. Honors courses are offered in business, English, mathematics, science, social studies, and world languages. Advanced Placement Program (AP) courses are available in AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, AP Environmental Science, AP English Language and Composition, AP Calculus, AP Statistics, AP United States Government and Politics, AP Macroeconomics, AP United States History, AP French Language, Latin, AP Spanish Language, and AP Italian Language and Culture. Teacher recommendations are required for admission to honors and advanced placement courses.
Students may enroll in the CISCO Networking Academy and are eligible to earn certification as CISCO Certified Network Associates (CCNA). This is a highly recognized I.T. certification applicable to all fields of study. College credit is available to students who select courses designated through a partnership with University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and Seton Hall University. Cooperative education and vocational-technical subjects are available in shared-time programs. Job shadowing is offered in conjunction with the School-to-Careers Program.

GPA and class rank are determined by final grades in all classes except Physical Education. They are based on a 4.0 scale for regular courses with one half point added for honors and one point for AP. Grades are on a pure numerical scale, but for reference purposes, the following letter grade legend is provided:

Ranking is calculated by an accumulation of points based on the quality and quantity of course work taken, quality being grades earned and quantity being the number of academic courses completed.

Students must pass the New Jersey High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA) and earn a minimum of 120 credits in English, mathematics, science, social studies, world languages, physical/health education, visual/performing/practical arts, computer applications, and electives.

In 2004, Nutley High School's football team and other student organizations were featured on Total Request Live when high school student Corey Smith directed the short 3 minute film Making the Grade starring Hugh Jackman as a high school math teacher.[1]
