Nuphonic
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nuphonic are a defunct record label, based in London, England. The label were founded in 1994 by Sav Remzi and David Hill with the aim of releasing and promoting dance music that reflected their passion for jazz, funk and ethnic music. The label were widely acclaimed and had a loyal fanbase who appreciated the fusion of electronic beats with african, latin and classical music.
The company did much more than just produce records, one of the main ventures was a pub called The Bridge and Tunnel in Shoreditch, which had Andy Weatherall as a thursday night resident.
The company folded in 2004, there are several reasons for this closure, one was that they lost their liquour licence for the pub, another was the downturn in sales of electronic music.
