Talk:Nuke and pave

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Is there evidence of this term being used, coming from places other than Wikipedia mirrors? Friday (talk) 13:58, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

Yes — a quick Google demonstrates this (e.g., [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], etc.). --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 14:56, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
Ahh, you're certainly right, not sure why I didn't see that before. I removed the bit about the kid who allegedly invented the term (how would we know?) but yeah it sure does seem to be in use. Do you think this is a merge candiate? Surely there are other terms for the same practice, also? Friday (talk) 15:02, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

You're probably right, yes, though I don't know the area well enough to know what would be a candidate for a merge. I couldn't find any reference to of Quimby, except for one page that mentioned "nuke and pave" and Mayor Quimby from the Simpsons... --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 21:58, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

Probably not that relevant now, but I sincerely doubt this kid (as far as I can tell he's an undergrad or barely graduated from a search on his name) had much to do with this phrase. I know for certain that I first heard it used at least 13 years ago by IT grads and undergrads that I was friends with. So it was at least in general use for them in the UK back in the early to mid 90s. Not a phrase I've heard for a while but that was certainly when I first heard it used. 82.2.154.1 22:53, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
