Ntcheu District

Ntcheu is a district in the Central Region of Malawi. It borders with the country of Mozambique. The district headquarters known as BOMA in local language is located in Village Headman Yeneya and the place is commonly called Mphate (Short form for kumpheto kwa Eneya). The district covers an area of 3,424 km.² and has a population of 370,757. It lies half way between Malawi's majors cities of Blantyre and Lilongwe the capital city. Most of the occupants of Ntcheu District are of Ngoni origin, descendants of the South African Shaka Zulu's tribe. They are thus connected to the Ngoni of mzimba district in the northern part of Malawi. The paramount Chief is Inkosi yamakosi Gomani and the traditional Authorities are Njolomole, Kwataine, Ganya, Makwangwala.

The district is well known for its vegetable production like cabbages, tomatoes and Irish potatoes at Njolomole, Lizulu and Tsangano turn off. Most of the people travelling between the two main towns of Malawi Lilongwe and Blantyre always make a stop over to purchase these products.
