[edit] Re: Templete Category 5
The reason this is a templete is because of an ongoing edit war with the wording of the sentences. I am fully well aware that the templete is tweaked for Rita, and that the Rita won't be the only Cat-5 hurricane. The templete can be updated to reflect the changing times and we can remove hurricane gibralter(?) if it never made landfall, but do we absolutly have to delete this so soon? TomStar81 03:19, 22 September 2005 (UTC)
- I posted the original sentences into the article itself around 5:00pm local (MDT) time. Since then they have been altered and reverted (key word reverted) something like 6 times. The templete was a solution I came up with to keep the 'edit war' down until Rita either downgrades or hits us. At the very least can't we wait until impact to delete it? TomStar81 03:24, 22 September 2005 (UTC)
- <sigh> How about a compomise then. I reinsert the text as it was before I made it a templete, and remove my keep vote. Will that work? TomStar81 03:28, 22 September 2005 (UTC)
- As it was Originally, it read: If Rita makes landfall in the United States as a Category 5 hurricane it will become one of only four Category 5 hurricanes to have hit the United States; most recently Hurricane Andrew in 1992.
- <sigh> How about a compomise then. I reinsert the text as it was before I made it a templete, and remove my keep vote. Will that work? TomStar81 03:28, 22 September 2005 (UTC)
I figured that out when you found the templete. It took me 6 monthes and one question to find out how to get to templetes. At any rate, everyone should feel welcomed, and I did come charging right onto your talk page with both barrels loaded so to speak, so I felt the need to make some kind of amends. BTW, as per the compromise, I have switched my keep vote to delete for the cat-5 templete. Good Luck, Have Phun, & Good Editin'! TomStar81 03:44, 22 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Johnsons Bayou, Louisiana
You took out Johnson's Bayou, Louisiana. I was going to add info, which I have now done. WikiDon 11:00, 24 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Saffir Simpson Scale
Why are you removing Hurricane Katrina as an example storm in the Category 4 section? Indeed, people incorrectly entered it as a Cat 5, but it did make landfall as a Cat 4 to the best of my knowledge - therefore making it a good, valid example, surely?
[edit] Hurricanes
Well, it probably stems from the vacation I had in 1996 that was ended by Hurricane Bertha (1996) (I ended up riding it out in Durham, NC), and greatly aided by Hurricane Floyd impact in Pennsylvania just two months after I moved there. However, with college starting and all the fun related to that, I haven't had as much time for hurricane tracking this year as I did last year, especially because it's been such an active season.
As for my user page, I really do need to update that. --Goobergunch|? 07:17, 6 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Wilma
Hey, I noticed you redirected the article, but I changed it and renamed it "Tropical Storm 24" as it is predicted that this storm is going to cause some damage. Worse, I live in its path. Image:Smilie.gifMolotov (talk)

[edit] Adminship Request
Oh my God! I could never have seen that coming. Wow! I-I don't know what to say. I'm kinda stunned here. I'm extrordinarily greatful that you think I deserve the honor. I'm leaning towards accepting, but I'd like to talk to some other administrators first. This is incredible. Thanks.
E. Brown, Hurricane enthusiast - Squawk Box 13:29, 18 October 2005 (UTC)
- You seem to have a lot of confidence in me, as do many other users, so I'm slowly building confidence in myself. I formally accept your nomination.
- E. Brown, Hurricane enthusiast - my dropsonde 22:19, 19 October 2005 (UTC)

- Oh well. Doesn't look like I'm going to win this vote. I am grateful for your nomination and the 18 other supports that I have gotten. The 11 opposes and 4 neutrals have given me a lot of good feedback. I'll work on it and maybe I can try again some other time. I still have five days, but it will take a miracle for me to get consensus.

[edit] How to write UTC time...
Hi, I saw your edit 05:59, 21 October 2005 NSLE m (ab:cd UTC -> abcd UTC; ef:00 <timezone> -> ef (am/pm) <timezone>) in the Hurricane_Wilma article. I have tried too edit so that UTC time always is used and then i write ab:cd. That is how wikipedia use it and that is what I see as most common. Why use abcd instead? Regards!

- Ah okey, I see now. Whould be great if there could be one standard on all of Wikipedia! I vote for with colon :)
[edit] Stirling Newberry
Don't let him get to you. But don't just revert all his changes either, or he won't see that there is a consensus. Let the rest of the editors do some reverting. Jdorje 06:11, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Stirling Newberry
I have no personal grudge, but I strongly object to both dishonesty and censorship. Consensus means a good faith attempt to have all of the main editors on a page agree. No such "consensus" was attempted. Instead you are running a gang revert war to vandalize a page. Since I am not going to violate the three revert rule - despite the flagrant violations that you and your friends have committed, I have disputed the page. Stirling Newberry 06:13, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
Asserting wiki ownership is against the rules. No good faith attempt was made to take a visible vote, merely a decision rammed through in the middle of a dense talk page. Further you have grossly violated wiki rules by unilaterally removing dispute tags. Stirling Newberry 06:17, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
The appropriate path when an informal decision is disputed is not to gang revert and vandalize a page. Consensus requires a good faith attempt to obtain it, no such attempt was made. In cases such as this the general wiki tradition is to hold a vote in a clear place and to make a good faith effort to contact interested editors. No such vote, and no such attempt, was made. Avoidance is generally the best solution on pages where there are enough editors that, eventually, the page will balance out, so that is what I am going to do. You asked if I have a personal grudge against you. The answer is, I do now, you've behaved in bad faith, as have your fellow gang reverters. Stirling Newberry 06:38, 22 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Why
Why can't we put articles on the other storms? Arlene was big. Maria was really big and so was Irene. Altohugh Maria and Irene didn't hit land, they were as hughe as Rita, Katrina, and Opellia. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tcatron565 (talk • contribs).
Hurricane Wilma is too still active. Plus it probably will be the last to disapate. I'm getting tired of you!!!! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tcatron565 (talk • contribs).
I can prove Hurricane Wilma is still active. It might be able to hit anything but it's still out there. And weakining. Here is where I got it. http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/ —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tcatron565 (talk • contribs).

What did I do? I've just been ading the dates of the hurricanes and the deaths. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tcatron565 (talk • contribs).
It's true they really are starting to look at it. Watch the weather channel at 50 past the hour and you can see it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tcatron565 (talk • contribs).
Doy! Duh! and lol. I know that but I haven't been puting them on there since 5:00p.m. CDT. Haven't you seen that or is your computer 3 hours behind!? TWC (the weather channel) is too watching the storm and I haven't been doing any type of vandelism. I HATE WIKIPEDIA WITH SO MANY RULES!!!!! There has to be at least 1,000,000,000,000,000. Do you agree? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tcatron565 (talk • contribs).
[edit] AFD on Clarecraft
I noticed you voted Delete in the Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Clarecraft for the very valid reason that it was simply a copy-paste from the company's website. I was not the original creator of the entry, but I've rewritten it, and I would appreciate if you'd take a look at the new article for Clarecraft and consider changing your vote. Thanks! Polotet 03:01, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Wilma pic
I don't see what harm including two pictures can possibly do. Breaking up text with pictures is always a good thing, and the fact that it's included in the main article also doesn't really matter. Jdorje 04:59, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Thank you for your vote on my RFA

[edit] Storm Infobox Templates
I saw you added a category to the Template for NW Pacific Typhoon Saffir-Simpson scale, Strong Tropical Storm. I wasn't sure what STS meant on JMA's site in refrencing storms but that seems to make sense, 50 knots appears to be the cutoff. In your coding on the template you used hex code and the others had template colors. I created Template:Storm_colour_strong to avoid having to code in hex as I did not see on the 2005 page you had gotten around this with Template:Storm_colour_catSTS. The template colors seem use the format, depression, storm, cat1, cat2, cat3 . . . etc. For that reason I inserted Super Typhoon as catS instead of Super or SuperTyphoon between cat4 and cat5. Template:Storm_colour_strong would appear to be appropriate in transitioning from storm to cat1. One of them should be marked for deletion but wanted to discuss with you which one first.
SkyWayMan 18:22, 29 October 2005 UTC
Also any objection to making the color for Strong Tropical Storm a little bit lighter. I like the dark green signifying strong on neutral color. The problem is the bold link for detailed information below is difficult to read contrast against a color this dark. I tested some similar colors with hex coding and bold links, "007700" is a similar shade of dark green. Bold links against this color are more easily read.

Duh! It was onlt that way for 10 seconds. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tcatron565 (talk • contribs).
But I switched it after I saw what it did to a page. And that was only about 2 minutes. For a few hours is wrong. Someone must of did it and you found the page like that, but looked to far in the past and found that I did it and must of just thought I did it. Because I changed it after 2 minutes. Tcatron565

[edit] Tropical Storm Cindy section on 2005AHS
Shouldn't the season article reflect the state it would be in if the Tropical Storm Cindy article stayed where it is? There's not much point to moving details to a seperate article if the details aren't actually moved! AySz88^-^ 06:16, 13 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] re: Hey
Don't worry about it -- its actually good to see discussion on an rfa that doesn't turn in to bickering ;) I completely understand the point; one of the major problems I have overcoming that is a lot of my interaction is on the mailing lists and via IRC -- its just not trackable in the same way. One of my major mediation feats was completely behind the scenes - when Joomla! split off of Mambo, someone thought Wikipedia needed an entry on the new CMS. I did a lot of coaching with the community on how Wikipedia worked since the sudden influx of Joomla! supporters looked like a lot of sockpuppetry, especially after the page was afd'd. I still think they've got a ways to go on the page, but its considerably improved from the blatent advertising it was. Anyways, thanks for dropping by. .:.Jareth.:. babelfish 14:27, 14 November 2005 (UTC)
