Nripen Chakroborthy

Nripen Chakrobothy (1905– December 25, 2004), Indian politician. Joined the Communist Party of India prior to Independence. Was elected secretary of the party in Bengal. Was later sent to Tripura by the party, and became an important organizer there.

Joined Communist Party of India (Marxist) in the 1964 split.

When the Left Front won the state elections in 1977, Chakrobothy became Chief Minister. He served until 1988.

In 1995 he was expelled from the party. On December 24 2004 the Polit Bureau of CPI(M) decided to renew his membership.
