Nowy Korczyn

Nowy Korczyn is a village in Poland, in Świętokrzyskie Voivodship, in Busko County. It is located at the mouth of Nida river, close to the point where it flows into the Vistula river.

Until it lost its city rights, the village was known as Nowe Miasto Korczyn (New City Korczyn). Throughout its existence, Nowy Korczyn has also been known as Khadash, Nayshtut, Neustadt, Novi Kochin and Novi Kortchin. It was established before 1258 by Boleslaus the Chaste, and used to be an important trade and political center. Since 15th century, the general sejmik of Lesser Poland was held there. Since 17th century, the town has gone into decline and lost its city rights in 1869. Up until the Second World War, the village had a large Jewish community, which perished in the Holocaust.
