NOVA Chemicals is a leading chemical company jointly headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, and the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, suburb of Moon Township. It was founded in 1954. The corporation's chemical assets are divided into two divisions: Olefins/Polyolefins and Styrenics.
NOVA's Olefins/Polyolefins division produces ethylene, a multipurpose chemical, as well as different grades of polyethylene and polystyrene, two theromplastics. The Styrenics line creates styrene monomer and styrene polymer, two chemicals that are used to make different types of plastic.
The chemicals produced by NOVA are manufactured into many different items. NOVA creates plastic bags, packaging, containers, pipes, and other household and commercial plastics. Components for appliances, electronics, and automobiles are also produced by the corporation. NOVA also creates an extensive line of plastic tools and parts for construction.
Research and development has been extremely important to NOVA's success. The company has several prominent R&D labs throughout the United States and Canada. NOVA has pioneered several important and high quality synthetics.
