[edit] Black Sabbath??

I wouldn't say their sound was "a cross between Black Sabbath & ZZ Top." I'll go with ZZ Top but I don't think they sounded at all like Black Sabbath. Sabbath was into songs about killing/death/apocalypse etc. and BTO was completely different, more along the lines of ZZTop. Ozzie has a high voice, BTO and ZZ much lower/grittier vocals. Sabbath's bass/drums were not especially remarkable, taking a backseat to Ozzie's lead, whereas ZZTop & BTO songs were notable for bass, beat & rhythm. So is there some other band to compare them with?
