[edit] About
Norwood School located in Bethesda, Maryland, is an independent co-educational K-8 school. Norwood School’s mission is "to ensure that each of its students grows intellectually, morally, physically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually, while preparing to function productively and generously in our pluralistic society." Norwood’s challenging educational program and broad-based activities are designed to help students experience joy in learning, develop self-confidence, and learn respect for the rights and feelings of others. Embracing diversity is integral to the School’s tradition that both recognizes the worth of each member of the community and emphasizes the common values of academic achievement, mutual respect, cooperation, and personal responsibility.

[edit] Religion & Spirituality
Many of the school's religions traditions have continued despite breaking with the Episcopal Church, including the annual Christmas Pageant and a daily chapel service which ultilizes the Episcopal Order of Service. In the Spring of 2006, Head of School Dr. Ewing announced planned changes to the chapel service, including the removal of the Lord's Prayer, and announced that Mary, Joseph, and the baby Jesus would not be represented in the pageant in an effort to foster the school's diverse image.[citation needed] Response to the proposal was mixed and complaints by more conservative members of the community resulted in a delay in implementation until the school could hold listening sessions to determine the most appropriate action.[citation needed]
The have chapel everyday. They sing spiritual songs. They say prayers but they dont not force any child to do it against their will, thus leading to a lack-luster chapel service in the upper school.[citation needed]
