[edit] History
Entering service in 1993 as Windward, she was the second of two sister vessels built by Chantiers de l'Atlantique for NCL. In 1998 both vessels were lengthened by insertion of a 130 foot midsection and emerged with new names. Windward became Norwegian Wind, and Dreamward became Norwegian Dream. This work was completed by Lloyd Werft Shipyard in Bremerhaven, Germany. As with the rest of NCL's fleet, Nowegian Wind operates the "Freestyle" cruising concept, which allows guest to dine in any number of restaurants, in casual attire, at times of their own choosing.
In May 2006, NCL announced that Norwegian Wind will be transferred in late April 2007 to Star Cruises to become SuperStar Aquarius, based in Hong Kong. The Norwegian Wind's departure from the NCL fleet will be more than compensated for with the arrival of the Norwegian Pearl and the Norwegian Gem; both of which are new purpose built "Freestyle" cruising vessels.
[edit] Vessel Class
Norwegian Wind was the second in a line of two ships with this design. She was preceded by NCL's Dreamward in 1992, which later became the Norwegian Dream.
[edit] Current cruises
Norwegian Wind is currently operating 10 and 11-day cruises from Honolulu, Hawaii. During the spring and summer months, she sails 7-day Alaskan cruises. Hawaiian itineraries visit all four main islands, as well as a 2-day voyage to Fanning Island, a tiny island in the Pacific.
