Norwegian National Intelligence Service

Etterretningstjenesten or The Norwegian Intelligence Service (NIS) is a Norwegian military intelligence agency under the Chief of Defence and the Ministry of Defence.
The budget for 2006 is NOK 724 million. The budget proposition for 2007 is NOK 815 million. The service operates stations at the following locations:
- Andøya, former SOSUS station.
- Fauske, suspected TELINT station.
- Kirkenes, suspected ELINT station.
- Vardø, home of the Globus II (HAVE STARE) radar.
- Vadsø, SIGINT/COMINT station.
In 1995, the Ministry of Defence confirmed that the service had operated a stay-behind service in cooperation with CIA and MI6.
