This is also a song by the late Stan Rogers, a well known Canadian singer/songwriter. It is based around the quest for the Northwest Passage, the fabled sea route between the Atlantic and the Pacific Strait to the Beaufort Sea).

Aside from featuring on the Stan Rogers album, of the same name, the song appeared as the finale of the last episode of Due South, as the two main Characters leave to find "The hand of Franklin, the reaching out one."
