Northwest Film Center

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Northwest Film Center (NWFC) is a component of the Portland Art Museum. Established and incorporated in 1978, NWFC provides a variety of film and video exhibition, education and information programs.

The School of Film, founded in 1972, offers courses in filmmaking, video production, and animation, available to emerging media artists throughout the year, both for non-credit and college credit through Portland State University. The School of Film's Young Filmmakers Program places professional media makers in school and community settings throughout Oregon for hands-on learning experiences in film, video, and animation production.

The Film Center's exhibition program screens foreign, classic, experimental, and independent films year-round. NWFC also hosts several annual film festivals, competitive and non-competitive, including the Portland International Film Festival (PIFF), Northwest Film & Video Festival, and the Young People's Film & Video Festival.

In addition to classes and screenings, NWFC provides low-cost film and video equipment rental to media artists within the community.
