Northumbrian Pipers Society
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Northumbrian Pipers Society is a group of bagpipe players, founded in 1928 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England, to promote both types of Northumbrian bagpipes - the smallpipes and the somewhat rarer half-longs.. Billy Pigg, later an influential bagpipe player, was its Vice-President from 1930 to 1968. At first they met in each other's homes to exchange tunes and to organise the occasional dance. In 1957 they were large enough to use the Morden Tower in Newcastle and to organise competitions in Alnwick.
