Northtown Mall is a shopping mall located in Blaine, Minnesota. The mall is owned by Glimcher Properties Trust.
The mall opened in 1972[2], and was originally anchored by Donaldson's, Montgomery Ward, Powers Dry Goods and Woolworth[3]. MainStreet was added as a fifth anchor in 1983; by 1988, the short-lived MainStreet chain's stores were converted to Kohl's.
Powers Dry Goods was converted to Donaldson's, and later Carson Pirie Scott, then finally to Mervyn's. HomePlace and Best Buy opened at the mall in the late 1990s, the same year that a food court was added. HomePlace closed in 2001, the same year that Montgomery Ward closed at the mall.[4] In 2003, Steve & Barry's opened in the former HomePlace.
Kohl's and Mervyn's both closed their stores at Northtown Mall in 2004.[4] The Mervyn's at Northtown Mall was the highest-performing Mervyn's in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.[5] Mervyn's is still vacant in 2007, but Kohl's was replaced with Burlington Coat Factory in 2006.

[edit] Redevelopment
Northtown Mall received a $2.72 million tax break from the city of Blaine to help the mall acquire another anchor store.[6]
In 2007, LA Fitness will be added to the mall as part of a renovation. This store will be carved out of existing storefronts, and will require the re-routing of mall hallways[7]. Furthermore, the former Montgomery Ward has been demolished, and The Home Depot is being built on the site of the former store; however, Home Depot will not open out into the mall itself.[8]
