Northside, Cincinnati

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Northside is a neighborhood in Cincinnati, Ohio that is bordered by the neighborhoods of Clifton to the south, Mount Airy to the west, Winton Place/Spring Grove to the East, and College Hill to the north. Northside was originally known as "North Cumminsville", but changed names to "Northside" several decades ago.

As one approaches Northside from Clifton, banners become visible. It used to be the site of the moderately major record label Blue Jordan Records. The neighborhood is known to have a very diverse population: college students, artists, gays, young professionals, and many members of the creative class are among the major groups that reside in the neighborhood. In recent years however the area has experienced some gentrification.

There are numerous shops and fine resteraunts in the neighborhood, including Casablanca Vintage, a huge building filled with tons of fabulous vintage, Shake It Records, selling a wide variety of CDs and LPs, Bughouse Video, Ali's Boutique, Honey, Slims, and Boswell's.

It is also home to one of the many Professional Bartending Schools of America, and the owner is a Northside resident.

Northside is home to a shop and label which has been nationally recognized as the "best independent records store in the Midwest," Shake It Records.

Northside is located just down the hill from Clifton.

Northside was originally named "North Cumminsville", but renamed many years ago in an attempt to reinvent itself.
