The Hospital started as Fir Vale Workhouse in the 1876's, which also contained the Smilter Lane/Herries Road Children's Homes.

The hospital is currently being expanded, and as part of this proposal, the Therapy Services OPD for Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy have already opened.
