The Northern Busway is a bus-only corridor intended to run between the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, Chermside and Aspley, on the northside of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. A busway is a dedicated roadway for buses, allowing them to bypass peak-hour congestion.

[edit] Proposed route

The busway is intended to run via Lutwyche and Gympie Roads in a grade separated corridor. Potential stations have yet to be finalised. It will form an extension to the existing Inner-Northern Busway, with connections to the South-East Busway and Eastern Busway Busways and the CityTrain network. It is integrated with the Airport Link project, a new underground road to Brisbane Airport.

On Tuesday 23 August 2005, TransLink issued preliminary information about the Northern Busway on its website. On 13 March 2006, the preliminary concept designs for the Herston to Kedron section of the busway were released, showing potential stations at the Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital (RBWH), Windsor, Albion Road, Lutwyche and Kedron. The majority of the busway is tunneled or bridged over Kedron Road, with some minor above ground sections. Further, more detailed releases occurred on 13 June 2006.

Concept planning for the section of the busway north of Kedron continues.

Potential stations have been identified in the most recent newsletter at the following sites following on from the Inner-Northern Busway:

  • Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital
  • Federation Street
  • Windsor
  • Albion Road
  • Lutwyche
  • Kedron Brook

TransLink has stated that stations can be built as demand dictates, meaning they can be built out of phase, as was the case with the Inner-Northern Busway.
