Northern Busway, Auckland
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
- Brisbane also has a Northern Busway presently under construction.
The Northern Busway is a system of bus lanes under construction along State Highway 1 in the north of Auckland, New Zealand, linking North Shore City with the Auckland CBD. It will extend on two lanes for 7 km along the motorway from Albany to the Harbour Bridge, and its use will be limited to buses and HOV vehicles. It aims to reduce travel times for buses mainly towards Auckland and within North Shore City itself, where it is to become the spine of an ambitious bus-based public transport system.
Currently two connected park & ride facilities are already operational, and two more are to be completed . The busway is to be fully operational by 2009 for a full cost of around NZ$ 290 million.[1] An extension to Orewa further north for NZ$ 500 million is debated for the long-term future.[1]
