Formed in 1986 from the Merseyside operations of the National Bus Company subsidiary Ribble, the company went on to expand into Cheshire and Greater Manchester, mainly through the transfer of then-sister company Crosville's depots in Warrington, Runcorn and Winsford, and through the acquisition of other companies such as Bee Line (operating in Greater Manchester) and Liver Line (an independent operating in Liverpool). The company later renamed itself as Arriva North-West & Wales.
