[edit] History

North Vista Secondary School has a long and illustrious history. It started as Thomson Government Chinese Middle School in 1957 before it merged with Thomson Vocational School to be known as Thomson Secondary School .

When Thomson Secondary School was relocated to Sengkang Town on 15 December 2000, its name changed to North Vista Secondary School.

The Chinese name of Thomson Secondary School was maintained to preserve its historical links with the new school.

During the 50 years of existence, the school has produced many outstanding individuals who have made their mark on society and contributed to the development of our country. They include politicians, senior civil servants, army officers, corporate leaders and sportsmen.

This year, 2006, the school is celebrating its Golden Jubilee. Celebrations are lined up throughout the year.

In February, the Homecoming Ceremony is held, whereby past students from the old Thomson Secondary School were invited to the new campus at Sengkang to join in the celebration with the current students of the school. A torch relay was held from the school's first campus at Anson Road to the former Thomson Secondary School campus at Thomson Road and all the way to the current campus in Sengkang.

In April, a Golden Jubilee concert was held at the NUS University Cultural Centre. Performances were put up by the school's choir, symphonic band, drama club, modern dancers and Chinese dancers.

In September, a Gala Dinner was held at the school's premises. Former students were once again invited to the grand event to celebrate the school's Golden Jubilee.

[edit] Special Programmes and Facilities

The school is one of few schools in Singapore that have a unique school hour system. Every Wednesday, formal lessons start late at 11.40am to free up morning hours for Co-Curricular Activities, in tandem with the school's hope of building up a vibrant and engaging CCA system.

The school is currently the North Zone Music Centre, offering the 'O' Level Music Programme to students in the northern area of Singapore. It has a music centre, Shaw Melodies @ Vista, specially built for this. The music centre is built from subsidies by the Shaw Organization.

Other than the 'O' Level Music Programme, the school also offers Higher Chinese.
