North Sioux City is a city in Union County, South Dakota, United States. It is part of the Sioux City/Iowa/Nebraska/South Dakota Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 2,288 at the 2000 census.

North Sioux City is located at 42°31′52″N, 96°29′44″W (42.530999, -96.495494)GR1, along the Big Sioux River.[1]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.9 km² (2.3 mi²). 5.8 km² (2.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it (1.32%) is water.

North Sioux City has been assigned the ZIP code 57049 and the FIPS place code 45700.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 2,288 people, 916 households, and 621 families residing in the city. The population density was 394.4/km² (1,021.7/mi²). There were 953 housing units at an average density of 164.3/km² (425.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 95.32% White, 0.61% African American, 0.79% Native American, 1.05% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.57% from other races, and 1.62% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.49% of the population.

There were 916 households out of which 37.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.3% were married couples living together, 11.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.1% were non-families. 25.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 2.99.

In the city the population was spread out with 27.1% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 32.3% from 25 to 44, 20.7% from 45 to 64, and 10.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 106.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 104.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $39,333, and the median income for a family was $44,926. Males had a median income of $31,800 versus $22,480 for females. The per capita income for the city was $21,416. About 5.0% of families and 5.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 9.3% of those under age 18 and 3.7% of those age 65 or over.

North Sioux City is the former home of Gateway, Inc.'s most well known computer facility. In addition, there are several casinos.
