North High School (Phoenix, Arizona)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
North High School is located at the intersection of Thomas Road and 12th Street in Phoenix, Arizona, United States.
It is a member of the Phoenix Union High School District. North High's mascot is the Mustang, and school colors are Red and Blue.
The school was known as North Phoenix Union High School from its opening in 1939 to 1970. In the late 1970s and early 1980s North High was closed and all students were routed to West High School, which is now Metro Tech.
In the late 1980s the school was reopened due to West High School's overcrowded campus.
In the early 1990s, as part of the district's federally-mandated attempts at racial integration, North High School became home to an International Baccalaureate magnet program. While the non-magnet population at the school remained largely Hispanic, most of the students enrolled in the magnet program have consistently been of non-Hispanic origin.
