North East Tonight is the evening regional news programme broadcast at 6pm each weekday on ITV Tyne Tees. It is produced at Tyne Tees' Television House headquarters in Gateshead. The programme covers news stories from across the North East and North Yorkshire in the UK. Newsrooms are also based in Sunderland, York, Billingham and London.

The show was first broadcast in 1996 following the defection of the popular Mike Neville to Tyne Tees from the BBC's Look North programme after 30 years. Tyne Tees's regional news programme had previously gone under names including Roundabout, Northern Life and Tyne Tees Today.

There are currently two separate editions of North East Tonight. The first is the North version, presented by Jonathan Morrell and Philippa Tomson, for those who receive their broadcasts from the Pontop Pike and Chatton transmitters. The second is the South version, presented by Pam Royle and Ian Payne, for those who receive their broadcasts from the Bilsdale transmitter.

Mike Neville, the previous anchor of North East Tonight, announced that he would be retiring from the show on June 5, 2006[1]. However he stated that he intended to remain involved with various projects for ITV.

The programme relaunched with new presenters for both the Pontop Pike and Bilsdale transmissions on Monday 25 September 2006.
