North County Trailway
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The North County Trailway is a paved 22.1 mile bicycle and pedestrian trail in Westchester County, New York. With few exceptions, it follows the former right-of-way of the New York and Putnam Railroad along the right bank of the Saw Mill River from the north end of Elmsford in the town of Greenburgh, through Eastview and Hawthorne where it parts the Saw Mill River and shifts to following the path of the Pocantico River in the Town of Mount Pleasant. From there it follows along the Pocantico River to Millwood, thereafter crossing the Croton Lake in Yorktown and on to the Putnam County line in Somers where it is continued by a similar Putnam County trail.
The head of the South County Trailway is on the other side of Elmsford, on Tarrytown Road between Route 9A and the Saw Mill River, about a mile south of the foot of the North County Trailway. It continues south along the Sawmill River, past Woodland Lake and into Yonkers.
