North Bronx

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The North Bronx is a neighborhood region in the Bronx, New York. The term is of little utility other than as a contrast to the South Bronx. Even so, it is sometimes criticized as an artificial region considering the great variation in its neighborhoods, both socioeconomically as well as geographically. Socioeconomically, the Riverdale neighborhood is middle to upper-middle class while Kingsbridge Heights or Bedford Park are no less dangerous, impoverished, or densely populated than the stereotyped South Bronx. Geographically, the North Bronx includes areas which are hilly and urban (much like Washington Heights, in Upper Manhattan) as well as areas which are coastal and suburban/residential (much like Queens.)

Because the South Bronx traditionally refers only to the southwestern Bronx, areas in the southeastern Bronx are often erroneously included as the "North Bronx."
