Located in Coon Valley, Wisconsin, in Vernon County, Norskedalen, which means “The Norwegian Valley,” is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of Norwegian culture and heritage as well as the conservation of the natural environment of the Coulee Region. Norskedalen began in 1977 as an outdoor laboratory and arboretum. Since then Norskedalen has grown to include over 400 acres that include over 6 miles of scenic nature trails, original pioneer log homesteads, exhibits featuring the natural and cultural heritages of the area, and annual family events.

Norskedalen offers more than 11 historical buildings, including the 1853 Skumsrud Cabin, (listed on the National Register of Historic Places), and the Bekkum Homestead- a re-creation of a typical local farm at the turn of the century. The Trune Center is a great resource for families as well as schools to gain a better understanding and hands-on experience with nature exhibits and heritage displays.

More recently, Norskedalen has added the option of lodging, with the Per and Anne Paulsen Cabin. Located right on the stunning Norskedalen grounds. This 130 year old restored log cabin will provide the best combination of comfort and authentic log cabin experience. Nestled in the heart of 400 acres of peace and solitude, the cabin is surrounded by Wisconsin’s premier trout fishing streams and has an incredible variety of plants, birds, animals and scenery. The Paulsen Cabin, as well as the rest of the Norskedalen grounds are within driving distance of the famous Sparta-Elroy bike trails.

When visiting Norskedalen, whether it's in the spring, summer, winter or fall, no season is without a special event guaranteed to educate and entertain. Norskedalen's mission is to "preserve and interpret the natural environment and cultural heritage of the region, to make people aware of and sensitive to these natural and cultural resources, and to provide educational opportunities at all levels through our arboretum, nature and heritage centers, and staff -- both volunteer and professional."
