Norsk Tipping

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Norsk Tipping AS is the national lottery in Norway, located in Hamar. The company is owned by the Norwegian state and administrated by the Ministry of Culture. Norsk Tipping was founded in 1948 and offered only football pools (Tipping) until 1986, when Lotto was introduced. Today Norsk Tipping offers draw games (Lotto, Viking Lotto, Joker and Extra), sports games (Tipping and Oddsen) and the scratch-game family Flax. In June 2003 the Norwegian parliament (Stortinget) decided that Norsk Tipping should take over the gaming-machine market in Norway, but this has still not occurred because of a legal case initiated by the current private operators.

The proceeds from the activities are equally distributed between sports and culture in Norway. In fact, 25% of the government's culture budget comes from these proceeds. The game Extra is an exception, where the proceeds are given to good social projects through a dedicated organisation.
