Norman Street

Norman Street (Greek: Odos Norman), is a street in Patras and it runs one way westbound. The entire section is an old branch of the GR-9/E55 southbound and the GR-5 and the GR-48 (E65). It begins from Riga Fereou Street up to the intersection with the Othonos-Amalias Avenue and the two-way Iroon Polytechneiou Street, its total length is approximately 400 m and it has about 5 blocks and no traffic lights, it has a railway crossing at the west end of the street. The road contains one lane with two parking spaces on each side.

Residential buildings with neo-classical and modern architectures covers most of the street, entirely in the eastern part, a square is in the east side by Agios Andreas Street, the city's railway terminal is east of a stoned wall, and the railway crossing with the SPAP line linking with Patras and Athens in the middle diagonally, it used to have a port fence which accessed the Port of Patras which is now closed.

The street is frequently used, the flow is mainly high, it declined when the new Patras Bypass opened 5 and 7 km to the east.

The street was paved in the late-19th century along with neo-classical buildings were added. After World War II and the Greek Civil War, the road was finally paved in the 1950s and several buildings were rebuilt. The street became one way westbound on its entirety. Traffic increased and later declined in the 1990s as the GR-8 and the GR-5 and the GR-48 was redirected to Iroon Polytechneiou until late-2002 which became presently redirected to the Patras Bypass.

The road were later installed with guardrail barriers that did not contain signals, it later closed a port entrance, in the late-1990s, the guardrail barriers became electrified and Iroon Polytechneiou was slightly extended.
